Omaha Beach, France

A view of Omaha Beach as the afternoon clouds started to roll in. Living in France has helped history come more to life for me. In the United States we learn about past Wars but there are very few physical reminders of the events that took place in these wars (at least where I have lived). However, in France, streets are named after horrific events to commemorate the lives lost there, newly constructed cities are evidence of the destruction that took place, and peaceful beaches like this one have plaques telling us about how on D-Day the ocean was red with blood.

This series of watercolor landscapes is a reflection on past road trips, weekend getaways, and seasons of life when we were able to travel freely. Each painting is painted from one of my photographs taken while traveling. It has me feeling very nostalgic for more simple times but also grateful for past adventures.
