Étretat, France

The cliffs at Étretat are lined with trails that give you views of tiny private beaches that can only be reached by boat. We were here for one day and weren’t prepared with warm enough clothes for kayaking but next time we are here, we are definitely renting kayaks and going to one of these tiny private cove beaches.

We are all spending a lot more time at home this year. Rather than being disappointed about missed opportunities, I am painting this series of watercolor landscapes as a reflection on past road trips, weekend getaways, and seasons of life when we were able to travel freely. For the month of November, I am committing (to myself mostly) to paint one watercolor landscape a day. Each painting is from one of my photographs taken while traveling. It has me feeling very nostalgic for more simple times but also grateful for past adventures, which is why I am titling this collection Looking Past Nostalgia.
