Étretat, France

I love the layers of rock on the cliffs at Étretat. The layers are all horizontal, stacking upon each other to create the soaring vertical walls straight up from the sea.

We are all spending a lot more time at home this year. Rather than being disappointed about missed opportunities, I am painting this series of watercolor landscapes as a reflection on past road trips, weekend getaways, and seasons of life when we were able to travel freely. For the month of November, I am committing (to myself mostly) to paint one watercolor landscape a day. Each painting is from one of my photographs taken while traveling. It has me feeling very nostalgic for more simple times but also grateful for past adventures, which is why I am titling this collection Looking Past Nostalgia.
